The Fairly Current Show is a 7-minute web talk show that focuses on current issues in Malaysia. Anchored by Fahmi Fadzil and creative produced by Mark Teh, the show has featured a diverse range of guests in its over two years and 100 episodes of existence.
Past guests include politicians, lawyers, civil society activists, artists, journalists, bloggers, writers, fishermen, SUHAKAM commissioners, economists, fortune tellers, students, political commentators, phantom voters, Santa Claus, and even a cow!
The Fairly Current Show aired its first episode on 12 June 2008, and airs weekly on Thursdays.
Fahmi Fadzil is a performer and writer. He
received his Bachelors' degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University,
Indiana, USA, but has since left that profession to work in the Malaysian arts
and culture scene. He is a member of arts collective Five Arts Centre, a
principal coordinator for wayang experimentation group Projek Wayang and helps
run Bright Lights At Midnight, a graphic design and multimedia studio. He
maintains columns and contributes articles to various print and online
publications, including KLue magazine, TheSun daily, arts and
culture portal Kakiseni.com, and news site TheNutGraph.com.
Mark Teh (creative producer) is a theatre director, researcher and educator, whose diverse, collaborative projects are particularly concerned with the issues of Malaysian history, memory, youth and participation. Over the past few years, he has directed Gostan Forward, Dua, Tiga Dalang Berlari and Baling (membaling), co-curated the Emergency Festival and Asian Youth Artsmall, and co-produced 10 Tahun Sebelum Merdeka, Project Angkat Rumah, The Fairly Current Show and That Effing Show. He is a member of the Five Arts Centre and PopIN collectives, and teaches at The One Academy of Communication Design and the Department of Performance & Media, Sunway University College.
