Information needs to be free, and information wants to be free.
Humanity for the longest time has had to grapple with the issue of inequality, but the underlining issue facing humanity in the current and future information economy is one of accessibility.
It can be argued that accessibility is a prerequisite to equality. We all consume information and through this process, new information is created. Some of it useful, some of it not quite.
This is the end of the era of the singular expert - gatekeepers of knowledge; and the dawn of the generalists. For the first time in human history, we literally have all the information we want at the tips of our fingers. Everybody knows something, and that something has value for someone.
The access to that information, however, is still handicapped by our media structure. Funny, how the promise of media hasn't really come to pass! So, we need to start again, and this time we will shun media, and create wedia. Though we haven't cracked the accessibility problem as yet, we are certainly working on it.
In the meantime, we'd like to facilitate the birth of information; Information that doesn't flow top-down nor bottom-up, but sideways, peer to peer. We'd like to facilitate the creation and distribution of this information, but not control the information itself. We may or may not succeed, but we certainly can't do any worse than mainstream media.
One final word on censorship.
Granted that managing information can be tricky and people abuse it all the time. Information is a tool and how people use such a tool is really a matter best left to our education system. The lack of an educated public cannot form the basis for controlling media. Media companies should strive to provide access to information in the most efficient way possible, without having to entertain censorship issues.

PopTeeVee (www.popteevee.net) is a web TV network developed by Popfolio Sdn Bhd.
Our primary objective is to engage with young Malaysians to help create a far more democratic media space. Rather than being reduced to mere consumers, we'd like to see young Malaysians create their own media experience. We do this by collaborating with creative producers to develop individual shows. PopTeeVee provides the resources to create and distribute this programming. This separation between platform and creativity will hopefully help create a more engaging media experience.
PopTeeVee is the network carrying individual channels such as The Fairly Current Show and The Weekend Sessions. The plan is to set up 5 channels, with one channel updated every day of the week. This proves to be a pretty efficient model. Every channel is developed with an independent creative team. Each team need only work to have one new episode per week, but the viewer will get to watch new content every day. The 3 remaining channels will be developed in stages over the rest of the year.

The Fairly Current Show was launched on PopTeeVee on 12 June 2008.
The concept is simple - every week, we invite a guest on for 7 minutes to talk about quirky and current affairs in Malaysia. A new interview is released every Thursday. Features on the site (www.popteevee.net) allow viewers possibilities for embedding, high resolution downloads, and an archive of past episodes.
So far, our bilingual show has featured thought-provoking interviews with landscape architect Ng Sek San; KLue and Junk publisher Adrian Yap; musician-playwright Shanon Shah; journalist Jacqueline Ann Surin; singer-songwriter Pete Teo; film director Yasmin Ahmad; first-time state assemblyperson for Subang Jaya, Hannah Yeoh; urban planning lawyer Derek Fernandez; actress Ida Nerina; and fishermen from Pulau Batu Puteh, amongst many others.

The basis on which new web talk show 20 Questions was created is simple: Change perceptions, change the world.
20 Questions features young, ambitious and passionate people who love their jobs. The fact that this is a rarity in our modern day society is alarming and distressing; indicative of a workforce that is resigned to a mediocre and very likely inadequate life. With 20 Questions, we hope to dispel the preconceived notion that work cannot be play.
While 20 Questions is fun and can be enjoyed by all ages, the show is mainly aimed at high school and college students. Since they will soon join the workforce, we hope to help create a more vibrant and innovative generation of young Malaysians who are not afraid to break out of the mould to pursue their true passions.
20 Questions is 7 minutes packed with inspiring information, genuine passion and a lot of laughs. The show features two segments; the first being the interview, the second featuring a game where our highlighted guest is asked 20 questions about his/her job and is required to answer them in 2 minutes.
20 Questions is hosted by David Yeow and Joel Loi, a very fun and funny duo who are talented and inspiring youths themselves.
